Magnetometer – Detects 3D magnetic fields down to a micron
OWIS (GE) is manufacturing precision positioning stages and takes part in special engineered projects.
An example is the magnetometer.
The power of a magnetic field can be detected pretty well by Hall-Effect sensors with 1% accuracy. Using the so called NMR-effect it can be detected precisely in 3D.
Challenges for this project are:
• high resolution in space
• contactless very compact measuring system
• to measure magnets with very inhomogenous fields
1 % of field accuracy corresponds to only some micrometers for 3D positioning resolution. The target resolution is better than a micrometer.
Measuring the magnetic field is a further challenge, as for each measuring probe, only one field component is detected. Detection of field characteristics closer than 1 mm becomes more complicated due to the housing of most sensors. 3D-sensors, which detect all fíeld components are too large for measuring close to the probe so a special sensor was developed.
